Liberty Lee out of the Masters Meteor Final
Disappointment today for trainer Betty Keene when her bitch Liberty Lee was ruled out of the Masters Meteor final at Wentworth Park next Saturday.
The Meteor, a new event conceived this year to cater for Masters greyhounds with more than 40 starts and carries prize money of $100,000 to the winner, is just one of the key feature events supporting the GRNSW + Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase, the world’s richest greyhound event, along with the Young Star, the Sydney Cup, the Regional Reward, and the Chase Consolation.
Unfortunately for Betty Keene, Liberty Lee injured an offside pin muscle in last Wednesday’s heats when she finished second to Frekey and qualified for the Meteor Final.
After a stewards’ inspection on Monday morning, it was deemed that Liberty Lee would not be able to take its place in the final and would be scratched when fields are officially released on Tuesday morning.
The run in the Masters Meteor Final will go to first reserve Barney Brann who finished third in his heat behind Blabba Mouth. Barney Brann will start from box five.
In other news surrounding the supporting events on Million Dollar Chase Grand Final night, and trainer Jason Magri has lodged an appeal against a three month ban handed to his stayer Zipping Manuela.
Zipping Manuela produced a big run on Friday night to finish a nose behind Sydney Cup favourite Poco Dorado in his heat, but was subsequently outed for a second time for marring, which carries a three month ban.
Magri lodged his appeal on Monday and it will be heard early this week. If unsuccessful, Zipping Manuela’s place in the field will go to first reserve Kanzan, who finished third behind Veloce Nero and Ebby Ripper in his heat.
